Abstract
The objective of this study was to formulate a preventive strategy for obesity through healthy eating and physical activity in intercity transport drivers in a western municipality. An analytical case-control design was applied, with a sample of 192 participants, equally distributed between cases (50%) and controls (50%).
The average age was 36 years, with a mode of 33 years. All participants were male. 87% came from urban areas and 13% from rural areas. Regarding educational level, 44.3% had incomplete secondary education and 22.4% had completed high school.
Regarding eating habits, the intake of food between breakfast and lunch (OR:1.45), the intake of pastries between breakfast and lunch (OR:1.74), and the consumption of Maruchan (OR:1.44) behave as risk factors without statistical significance.
Regarding the intake of carbonated beverages, the intake of juices with natural flavors (OR: 2.76) showed a significant association; regarding physical activity, spending little time going out for a run increases (OR: 5.22) and the low frequency of doing sports increased the probability of developing obesity.
It is recommended to replace processed drinks with water, along with a healthy diet, physical activity, and education about obesity, in order to improve the quality of life of transport workers.
