Abstract
Laparoscopic surgery, or minimally invasive surgery (MIS), has revolutionized the field of surgery by reducing patient recovery time and minimizing complications. However, the technique poses challenges due to limited depth perception, restricted instrument mobility, and the complexity of visual interpretation. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly being integrated into laparoscopic surgery to overcome these limitations, enhancing precision, safety, and efficiency throughout the surgical process. AI-driven systems improve intraoperative precision by utilizing machine learning and computer vision to generate 3D reconstructions and assist in real-time decision-making. Robotic platforms, enhanced by AI, offer greater dexterity, tremor stabilization, and autonomous task support, further improving surgical outcomes. AI also plays a critical role in surgical training, using virtual reality and simulation-based feedback to accelerate skill development. In postoperative care, AI helps predict complications and personalize patient recovery plans, reducing readmission rates and optimizing resource management. Moreover, AI aids in preoperative planning by analyzing imaging data and patient history to forecast potential risks. Looking to the future, AI’s capabilities will expand with innovations in augmented reality, autonomous robotic tasks, and personalized predictive models. As AI continues to evolve, it promises to augment rather than replace human expertise, driving safer, more efficient laparoscopic procedures and improved patient outcomes.
