Abstract

Introduction: Evans syndrome (ES) is a rare disease in which the immune system produces antibodies that mistakenly destroy red blood cells, platelets and neutrophils.

Observation: Primary Evans syndrome without cause is very rare and is observed in children; here we describe a case of Evans syndrome associated with mixed herpes viral encephalitis in a young 16-year-old
immunocompetent patient whose outcome was fatal. The article presents the therapeutic difficulties specific to this case in our context and also reviews the existing literature on the diagnosis and treatment of this condition.

Conclusion: ES is a serious pathology with complex diagnosis and treatment, it requires multidisciplinary care associated with therapeutic education.
