Abstract
Background: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) represents a prevalent health concern among medical students globally. This study sought to evaluate the prevalence of IBS within the cohort of medical students in Sudan.
Methodology: A total of 121 medical students from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Kordofan have consented to take part in the current study. The information for this study was collected through an online questionnaire.
Results: Among the 35 individuals diagnosed with IBS, 57% were identified by physicians, with an equal distribution of 50% males and 50% females. Approximately 31% of the cases were identified by students, with 64% being female and 36% male. Approximately 11% of cases were self-diagnosed, with an equal distribution of 50% males and 50% females.
Conclusion: The incidence of IBS among medical students in Kordofan, Sudan, exceeds the reported rates. Females are more frequently affected by IBS compared to males.
